Ireland
Dublin
Many
people are lured to Dublin to savour the ambience
of a city that produced such great literary figures
as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett. The
city was founded by the Vikings in the 10th century,
though the area had been inhabited some 8,000 years
earlier, and remained a small town until the 17th
century, when Protestant refugees from all over Europe
began to flock to Dublin . Since Ireland's independence
from Britain in 1922, Dublin has become the political,
economic and cultural centre of the country, offering
a wealth of attractions for visitors. |
